short live express
is the short solo concert by Thierry Zaboitzeff recorded on 04/10/2019 at SZENE Salzburg
in the frame of the 30th anniversary of the editta braun company.
The recording was made on the day of the concert simply by mixing the tracks managed by the artist and the microphones in the theater.
Thierry Zaboitzeff singing and playing alone on stage electric bass, electric cello and keyboard, accompanied and supported by loop stations, samplers and prepared personal sequencers.
For this live performance, Thierry Zaboitzeff uses in addition to these instruments (Cello, bass, keyboard, voice ...) a Boss RC 50 loop station as well as a virtual sampler: Uvi- Falcon running on Mac in which are organized the sounds and sequences he has himself realized and that he is piloting live. This allows all this orchestral richness on stage around a single man and to make appear-disappear piano-strings-percussions-special effects in complex orchestrations in the service of the composer and to perform live. Kontakt 6 is also used in particular for a virtual martenot wave and some atypical string instruments.
The mix is also managed from the stage by the musician.
Thanks to WTPL-Music and Monstre Sonore for allowing the solo cover of Sleep No More by Aria Primitiva.
short live express
...For the five solo live tracks of Short Live Express, recorded at Salzburg earlier last year, Zaboitzeff surrounded himself with a number of instruments — electric bass, cello, and keyboards, supported by loop stations, samplers, and prepared personal sequencers, vocals, and voice samples. The powerful six-and-a-half minute “El Amor Brujo” is a particularly interesting offering, morphing as it moves along its duration with strange and angular melodies. “Kijé” is Zab’s dark and mysterious take on Serge Prokofiev's "La Romance du Lieutenant Kijé." “Crash” is the most lively and energized piece among the five, pushing the limits at a brisk pace. He also offers a solo version of “Sleep No More,” previously performed by his trio Aria Primitiva. It’s only around twenty minutes altogether, but certainly underscores what he can do in a live solo performance.
